**PARENTS**

**Mark your calendars for Monday, January 14th.  Please join us for Financial Aid Information

Night at 6:30 pm in the high school library.  If your child is planning on continuing his or her

education after high school, and you would like financial assistance, you will need to file a Free

Application of Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Mr. Thomas O’Donnell will present information

regarding the FAFSA.  Please RSVP @ 610-791-2884 or by e-mail:  gzapf@stsd.org

 

The preferred method of filing the FAFSA is on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  You and your parent(s)

should apply for your PIN numbers before beginning the application process at www.pin.ed.gov

FAFSA Worksheets are available in the guidance office.

 

SAT:

-College-bound Juniors should plan on taking the SAT I Reasoning Test on Saturday, March 1, 2008.

Register on line at www.collegeboard.com.  Be sure to enter our high school name in the “School

Information” area.  Registration deadline - Jan. 29, 2008. 

 

SAT Preparation Course – Penn State Lehigh Valley:

-Penn State is offering high school students a seven-week course to prepare for the SAT.  It teaches

proven test-taking techniques to help students realize their full potential on the test.  This course will

be offered at the Lehigh Valley Campus.  The fee is $190.00.  Dates:  Saturdays, 1/12 thru 2/23, from

9:00 am to noon.  If you have any questions regarding registration, please contact Penn State @ 610-

285-5058.  If you have any other questions, please contact the SHS Guidance Office at 610-791-2884. 

 

OPEN HOUSE:
Where can a Lehigh Career & Technical Institute Education take you?  Attend the Open House at
LCTI on January 10th from 6:00 to 8:30 pm, and see where you can go!  For more information, visit

ESSAY CONTEST:

-Enter the 3rd Annual “Gift of Life” Essay Contest sponsored by the Lehigh Valley Coalition for Organ and Tissue Donation & the Gift of Life Donor Program.  Use your literary talents to spread the word about the importance of organ donation.  Open to students in grades 9-12.  First prize-$200.  For more information, call 1-800-438-5093, ext. 6119.  Deadline – February 8th

 
SCHOLARSHIPS:

-The Second Mile Community Service Award and Scholarship Program – senior who is a leader

within the field of community service.  Deadline – January 17th

-Ronald McDonald House Charities is sponsoring several Scholarship Programs:  the  African American Future Achievers Scholarship Program; the Hispanic-American Commitment to Educational Resources Scholarship Program; and the RMHC Scholarships for seniors of all backgrounds.  Deadline – February 1st

-We have received a copy of the 2008 Masonic Scholarship Resource Guide.  Check the scholarship,

grant, and loan opportunities for Masons, their relatives, and members of the Masonic-related youth

groups.  Deadline – Varies
