GUIDANCE HAPPENINGS
--Mid-marking for the 4th quarter is Friday, May 9th.
--AP Exams will be administered the weeks of May 5th and May 12th The schedule is: Wednesday, May 7th Morning AP Calculus AB Exam Thursday, May 8th Morning AP English Literature & Composition Friday, May 9th Morning AP US History Exam Friday, May 9th Afternoon AP European History Exam Monday, May 12th Morning AP Biology Exam Tuesday, May 13th Morning AP Chemistry Exam
--The Academic and Service Awards Program is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21st in the high school auditorium.
--Information on Summer Opportunities is available in the Guidance Office. Example: American Legion Keystone Boys State a comprehensive one-week course in state and local government where juniors take an active participating role in a practical learning government. Each level of the mock government is run by the student delegates, who are elected by their peers to serve in various civic capacities. Students also can establish their own businesses. SCHOLARSHIPS: (Applications are available in the guidance office) --The Portuguese American Club is again sponsoring two scholarships for Portuguese seniors. Applicant must be of Portuguese ancestry and parents must be members of the Portuguese American Club for a minimum of 3 years. Deadline 5/20/08 --The Rainbow Scholarship offers three awards in June. Brochures and applications can be found online at www.prideglv.org Deadline 6/1/08 --The BigSun Organization offers an annual Scholarship to a senior athlete currently involved in some sport. To apply visit http://www.bigsunathletics.com Deadline 6/20/08 --Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants are again sponsoring a scholarship program. Student will submit an essay on one of the two topics that appear on the scholarship page of their web site: http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarshipawards.htm Scholarships are available to juniors and seniors. Full details are available on the site. Deadline 6/20/08 --Let Uncle Sam pay! The ROTC (Reserved Officer Training Corps) programs run by the Army, Air Force, and Navy spend hundreds of millions per year on scholarships and assistance to college students.
