Honors Chemistry
II
Dual Enrollment
Is Dual Enrollment
right for you?
Students
studying Honors Chemistry II have the option of electing dual enrollment with Lehigh
Carbon
Community College. Students who choose dual enrollment will be
registered for LCCC’s CHEM 106 course, Physiological
Chemistry.
Physiological Chemistry is a 4-credit
lab science course that LCCC requires for students majoring in nursing and
veterinary technician programs. Most
schools with nursing, dental hygiene, or veterinary technician programs will
accept this course and transfer the credits.
The dual enrollment option is ideal for Salisbury students who are planning to pursue
careers in these fields.
Salisbury
students who are NOT planning to major in a science curriculum in college will
usually find that they still need to elect one lab science in college. Dual enrollment gives these students the
opportunity to get their lab science elective out of the way while still in
high school.
Salisbury
students who are planning to major in chemistry, pre-med, engineering, or a
similar science field in college may or may not benefit from dual
enrollment. In many cases, colleges will
not find this course to be comparable in content to the chemistry courses which
they require in these science-intensive majors.
While they may be willing to accept LCCC credits, having these credits
will not necessarily eliminate the need to take the full complement of
chemistry courses required in a student’s major. Students considering such majors should
contact their college of choice before committing to dual enrollment. As an alternative, Mrs. Stetzel is happy to
work with these students to prepare them for the AP chemistry exam.
If you still have questions about
whether or not dual enrollment is a smart choice for you, see Mrs. Stetzel or
your guidance counselor for more information.
