MAJOR SUBJECTS

ENGLISH- Students will explore parts of speech, vocabulary, literature, sentence development, paragraph structure, writing with the writing process.

SOCIAL STUDIES- Students will engage in a thematic approach to the stuffy of world history from the Dark Ages to the explorers. Geography and history are both emphasized.

MATHEMATICS

MATHEMATICS- Students will review computation of Whole Numbers, Decimals, Fractions, Ratios/Proportions, Percents, introduction to Geometry, with positive and negative numbers.

ALGEBRA TOPICS & HONORS- Students will study the development of the real number system from whole numbers to integers and rational numbers, the properties and operations under the set of reals, algebraic punctuation, the solution of equations and inequalities in one variable and graphing on a number line and on Cartesian coordinates. Honors students will do more challenging problems and more application-based problems.

SCIENCE- Students will investigate an integrated life, earth and physical science curriculum designed to meet new state standards in the areas of science and technology as well as environment and ecology.

READING- Students use a variety of materials to make reading productive and fun as strengths are reinforced and weaknesses diagnosed

SPECIAL SUBJECTS

ART-Four major areas are studied: aesthetics, criticism, history (Italian Renaissance, Baroque, and Neo/Classical) and studio. A field trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art is planned.

COMPUTERS-Students learn to use Database, Spreadsheets, and Desktop Publishing.

FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE- YOUTH AND THE FAMILY: the course includes knowledge and awareness of family types, nutritional needs of the family members and health/safety needs of a child throughout the stages of development.

GUIDANCE- Students continue to research and explore career options as they work with the Career Pathways model.

HEALTH- Students will engage in the study of Wellness, Sex Education, Tobacco/Alcohol, and Physical Fitness.

MUSIC- Students will explore rhythm in conjunction with instruments, the way music is put together and composers use of rhythms in various music compositions.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION- Students participate in team; individual sports as well as lead-up games are offered.

TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION- Students work with computer based learning modules in the2 technology fields of engineering, communication and biotechnology.
