Mr. Roger McFillin

Mr. Roger McFillin joined the Salisbury Middle School Staff in 2004.  Mr. McFillin has earned an M.Ed. in School Counseling from Kutztown University and an M.S. in Clinical Psychology from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.  Mr. McFillin is currently a 4th Doctoral Candidate in the Clinical Psychology Program at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.  As part of his Doctoral work, Mr. McFillin has been employed as a psychologist in training at the Penn Foundation in 2006-2007 and is currently placed at The Center for Brief Therapy on the campus of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.  Mr. McFillin  has previous experience working as a counselor at KidsPeace Psychiatric Hospital, a juvenile probation officer in Lehigh County Juvenile Probation, and providing family therapy for Community Centered Treatment, Inc.  Mr. McFillin is currently involved in research on eating disorders with adolescent girls.  Mr. McFillin has clinical experience treating adolescents, adults, and families and has particular interests in adolescent development, eating disorders, the treatment of anxiety and depression, school adjustment and performance, substance abuse, and marriage and family therapy.  Mr. McFillin and his wife Tracy have three children- Madison, Alexa, and Shane.  Please feel free to contact him at rmcfillin@stsd.org or at his office phone (610) 791-0830 x3531.

How Mr. McFillin can help:

Academic Support

·        Provides academic support through acting as a liaison between home and school.

·        Coordinates and advises course selection and academic planning.

·        Assists in a learning style assessment

·        Provides individual counseling to address test anxiety

·        Provides standardized assessment results and interpretation

·        Participates in team meeting process to communicate to teachers individual academic and social needs, strengths and weaknesses etc. Helps coordinate academic planning

·        Provides Parent Information night for 9th grade course selection

·        Provides advisement on study skills and behavior support

·        Provides Career Counseling through the use of a variety of career assessment tools

Social and Emotional Support

·        Provides Individual Counseling for a variety of concerns that have included friendship development, social skills, depression, anxiety, family concerns, loss, substance abuse, school adjustment, eating and body image concerns, social problem-solving, decision making, divorce, adolescent social development, and the teaching of general coping skills.

·        Develops and co-facilitates group workshops on teen issues

·        Coordinates Student Assistance Program

·        Provides Consultation with families to discuss specific concerns to adolescent social and academic adjustment

·        Conducts Crisis assessments

·        Provides appropriate referrals to community based agencies to address specific individual needs.
