If videoconferencing is something you would like to investigate, be sure to check out the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration. This is quickly becoming the source for content provider videoconferences (from places like museums, science centers, etc) as well as collaborative conferencing between classrooms around the country. To best utilize the full potential of this resource, be sure to register for a free Individual Membership. Benefits include:
- weekly emails about new programs and collaborations added to their database
- the ability to post a request for a collaborative videoconference partner
As you search for programs, you will notice that many of them have been evaluated, providing you with a better idea, beyond solely the description, of the quality of program.
Using videoconferencing technology is a snap for those in all of our school buildings. And don't worry about the technical issues - our building computer technicians are ready to help you with all of the technical requirements of a conference, allowing you to focus on content and instruction.
Once you have located a program, speak with your principal to acquire permission, and then contact me. If there is a fee, we will try to work out how we will cover the cost. I can also work with you for any instructional needs you may have leading up to the conference.
There are some other excellent resources on the web for videoconferencing, particularly MAGPI, which we'll highlight in a future newsletter. In the past we have participated in videoconferences with several authors and even a Holocaust survivor. Please contact me if you are interested in finding and participating in a videoconference!
