Revised Bloom's Taxonomy
Speaking of effective questioning (last week's edition), did you know that in the 1990's the Taxonomy of Educational Objectives created by Benjamin Bloom was updated? Originally, thinking was categorized into the areas of knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. Bloom chose to use nouns, while the revised taxonomy finds thinking best reflected with action verbs:
  • Remembering
  • Understanding
  • Applying
  • Analyzing
  • Evaluating
  • Creating

And of course, we want to work toward moving students to higher levels of thinking - all which can be enhanced through the effective use of technology. You can read more detail about the updated taxonomy at this link: http://rite.ed.qut.edu.au/oz-teachernet/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=print&ceid=29
